It’s a free stand-alone Windows application that lets a custodian grant you secure, temporary access to their cloud-based or IMAP email account in a matter of minutes.

Aid4Mail Remote Authenticator requires no installation. All the custodian needs to do is download and launch the app.

For Office 365, Hotmail & Outlook.com

For Office 365, Hotmail, Outlook.com and other Microsoft alias email account domains, custodians simply need to input their email address and click Start.

Using the secure OAuth 2.0 authorization protocol, Remote Authenticator will create a token file that the custodian sends you via email. This file contains the log-in credentials in a format that only Aid4Mail can read. Once you receive a token, open Aid4Mail version 5 and choose “Office 365” as the source email account type, then click Import and select the token. You can now access and process the email account as needed using Aid4Mail.

For maximum security, log-in credentials are encrypted inside the token file and can only be decrypted by Aid4Mail internally. This means no unauthorized person can discover the custodian’s login details. Furthermore, the custodian is able to revoke a token’s access to their mail account at any time from within their account settings.

For Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL & other IMAP accounts

For Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL and IMAP email addresses, custodians just need to launch the Remote Authenticator and enter their email address and password. For less common types of accounts, the server address and port may need to be modified. A token expiry date can also be set to limit the validity of the access token.

On completing the procedure, Remote Authenticator will create a token file that the custodian then sends you via email or other means.

Once you receive a token, open Aid4Mail version 5 and choose IMAP as the source email account type, then click Import and select the token. You can now access and process the email account as needed using Aid4Mail.

The token is protected in two ways; the account password is encrypted and can only be decrypted internally by Aid4Mail, and the expiration date is protected and cannot be modified in any way. If it is, the token will not work.
